Instagram image sizes and aspect ratios

Instagram Help says photos are shared at up to 1080 pixels wide. A photo between 320 and 1080 pixels wide keeps its original resolution if its ratio is between 1.91:1 and 3:4, which at 1080 wide means 566 to 1440 pixels tall. Drop in an image to see whether Instagram will crop, enlarge or shrink it.

Feed photo320 to 1080 wide; ratio 1.91:1 to 3:4 (Instagram Help)

Drop a local file to check it. Nothing is uploaded.

How it works

  1. 1

Drop in an image. The browser reads it, and nothing is uploaded.

  2. 2

The checker reads its width, height and ratio.

  3. 3

It marks whether the ratio falls between 1.91:1 and 3:4, the range Instagram keeps without cropping.

  4. 4

It also tells you if the photo is wider than 1080, which Instagram sizes down, or narrower than 320, which Instagram enlarges.
