Bold and italic text generator

LinkedIn, X and Instagram posts have no bold button, so people paste Unicode letters that look bold or italic. Type your text, pick a style and copy the result. Software reads these letters as math symbols, which affects screen readers, search and character counts, so keep them to a word or two.

Try it

Screen readers may read these letters one by one, announce them as math symbols, or skip them. People who use a screen reader may not be able to read your styled text. Keep names, links, hashtags and calls to action in plain text, and style a word or two at most.

How it works

  1. 1

Type or paste the words you want to style.

  2. 2

    Pick bold or italic.

  3. 3

Bold swaps letters and digits for look-alikes from Unicode's Mathematical Alphanumeric Symbols block. Italic swaps letters only.

  4. 4

Copy the result and paste it into your post or bio.

FAQ

Is this a font?
No font is involved. Each styled letter is a separate Unicode character from the math symbols block, which is why it pastes anywhere that accepts Unicode text.
Do styled letters work with screen readers?
Often badly. A screen reader may spell them out or call them math symbols, so the note above the output asks you to style a word or two at most.
Do styled letters count more on X?
Yes. X counts Latin letters as 1 but most other Unicode as 2, so each styled letter uses 2 of your 280.
Can people search for styled words?
Search tools that match plain letters may not match them. Keep the words you want found in plain text.
